Skin Care Advice
- Do's and Don'ts
Below are some helpful skin care treatment tips
for different types of skin conditions. This skin care treatment advice should
only
be
used
with
the approval of your doctor or dermatologist.
Hyper Pigmentation:
Microdermabrasion is an excellent treatment for superficial
hyper pigmentation, because regular treatments provide increased exfoliation
which
reduces surface discoloration. Most treatable hyper pigmentation is in surface
skin cells which have a life cycle of four to five weeks. Initially hyper pigmented
skin cells are replaced by nearly identical hyper pigmented cells.
However, as
one month turns into two and three, the lower layer of skin gets the message
to send cells faster and what appeared as a hyper pigmented area becomes more
and more "normal" i.e. what it looked like prior to whatever irritation
caused the hyper pigmentation. (like shaving of pubic hair which is a very common
cause).
Also Hydroquinone-based products (lightening creams and bleaches) will
continued to play an important role in the treatment of hyper pigmented skin
and can be more effective when combined with microdermabrasion treatments. Consulting
a board certified Dermatologist is always the best way to proceed.
Microdermabrasion
Acne:
The main benefit in using microdermabrasion to
treat acne is to allow the skin to achieve a more normal exfoliation cycle,
which helps prevent pore clogging. Only mild Acne will generally respond well
to microdermabrasion. When combined with a proper cleansing and standard benzyl
peroxide therapy mild acne can be well treated. Moderate to severe acne are
not conditions for which microdermabrasion is not recommended. Moderate and severe
active acne should be treated by a board certified Dermatologist in an appropriately
managed (medical model) acne clinic.
People with extra sensitive skin; our recommendation (besides using our Sensitive
Skin Formula as opposed to the Professional Strength) is to use a natural mineral
makeup foundation that is non-irritating. These types of products were specifically
formulated for post-laser makeup and post chemical peel makeup and are terrific
for people with extra sensitive skin who use microdermabrasion. You can easily
find them by searching the internet. People with normal skin need not change
their makeup.
Dry Skin Care:
People with extra dry skin are strongly advised
to use a premium moisturizer after your treatment. If you have the time
and patience, you will benefit from a moisturizing mask at the conclusion
of the treatment. Skin that is too red at the end of the treatment is a
sign of excessively harsh treatment technique and, as we have mentioned
several times, subsequent treatments should then be performed using a less
aggressive technique.
Home Microdermabrasion
Helps:
With Microdermabrasion treatments, the top most layer of your
facial skin is removed to a benign depth. The amount of dead cells removed
are well above the live tissue layer and therefore no blood or fluids are exposed.
In removing a portion of this upper layer, new living cells that are deeper
in the tissue are eventually stimulated to move faster to the surface to compensate
for the loss of a part of the protective layer of the skin.
Home microdermabrasion is best performed as part of a series, as a non-aggressive
on-going process. The result is a fresher, healthier skin with enhanced surface
qualities. A healthy looking skin enhances the appearance and reduces clues to
your age. Remember, as we get older the cell regeneration process takes longer
and if you are over sixty years of age it can take even longer (up to five months)
to achieve optimum results. However, this time will go by anyway and if you were
not improving your facial appearance, you would have nothing extra to help you
feel good about yourself.
