WHAT DOES A MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT
ACTUALLY DO?
Microdermabrasion is
a treatment that provides a gentle, progressive form of abrasion
to the superficial layers of the your skin. This treatment, over
time, (two to three months) helps your skin to renew itself
to a astonishing extent. It is also helpful in the reduction
of blocked and enlarged pores plus it smoothes and softens facial
lines and areas of age/sun damage. Microdermabrasion is also used as a wrinkle reducer.
HOW UNCOMFORTABLE
IS HOME MICRODERMABRASION?
Most
patients experience no (zero) discomfort during or after the treatment. Microdermabrasion
treatments are like using a pumice stone to smooth the rough skin
on a foot. The particles
called "microdermabrasion
crystals" are extremely fine and only interact with surface tissue when used
properly. i.e. With minimum progressive
force over time until you discover how much is enough and how much
is too much.
WHAT WILL MY
SKIN FEEL LIKE AFTER MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT?
The skin
should feel vibrant
and healthy. You should notice an immediate difference
in the way the skin feels because it will be softer and smoother. Microdermabrasion treatments are like using extremely fine sandpaper
to polish a scratch off of a piece of furniture or reduce wrinkles in the skin.
HOW LONG DO
THESE SKIN CARE TREATMENTS LAST?
As
long as you continue to perform them.
If
performed daily, the appearance of your face should improve
fairly dramatically and further aging will be slowed. (Provided
you stay out of the sun, of course.) Facial
treatments usually take about 1 - 2 minutes. Face, neck, and
upper chest about 3 minutes. If you wash your
face completely pre treatment and use a premium cell regenerative
product post treatment, plan to add about 5 or 8 minutes
to your routine. You should always plan
on cleansing your face thoroughly before
doing your daily microdermabrasion treatment.
HOW MANY MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENTS
DO I NEED?
In a normal course of
once/day home Microdermabrasion treatments for 3 - 4 months will produce
optimum results. After the initial course of treatments, some
people discover that every other day or even twice a week maintains
their appearance very well. It all depends on how often you use it and the type of skin you are trying to treat. As a wrinkle reducer it may be necessary to use the treatment daily but to
fade light scaring it may take a few weeks of every other day use.
HOW IS MICRODERMABRASION
DIFFERENT TO A GLYCOLIC PEEL?
Microdermabrasion treatments
eliminate the pain and discomfort plus the risk of an adverse reaction
to a conventional peel. Microdermabrasion treatments
are more predictable in the way they interact with your skin. Another
method of removing wrinkles and lines involves a laser, which
you have probably heard about. Laser treatment is expensive, penetrates
quite deeply and requires local or general anesthetic. While
this is a good procedure for deeper wrinkles the healing time is
long, sometimes requiring months.
WHAT IS THE CORRECT SPELLING OF MICRODERMABRASION?
There is a lot of confusion surrounding proper grammar and terminology for
microdermabrasion.
I will list a few examples of common spelling practices. Obviously "microdermabrasion" is the correct spelling but below are a few subtle variations.
dermabrasion - Usually refers to a medical procedure called skin planeing which actually abrades the skin much like a scrape wound. This procedure improves
the appearance of scars resulting from acne, chicken pox, and accidents. It is also used to treat tattoos, age spots, chronic sun damage, wrinkling, precancerous skin degeneration, and other diseases.
